Μόλις πριν λίγο έγινε επίσημα γνωστό στα social media πως η Marianne Faithfull νοσηλεύεται από την περασμένη Τρίτη σε νοσοκομείο του Λονδίνου. Την είδηση μοιράστηκε η Penny Arcade:

Τα μέσα ενημέρωσης έχουν επιβεβαιώσει την πληροφορία και αναμένουμε την εξέλιξη της υγείας της. Να θυμίσουμε πως κατάφερε έως και σήμερα να επιβιώσει από την ήδη επιβαρυμένη κατάσταση της υγείας της.

«Η Marianne Faithfull είναι σε νοσοκομείο του Λονδίνου αφότου διαγνώστηκε θετική στον Covid 19. Η εισαγωγή έγινε την περασμένη Τρίτη. Σας παρακαλώ προσευχηθείτε γι’ αυτήν! Άντεξε και επέζησε από πολλά στη ζωή της, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του ότι ήταν η Marianne Faithfull – το να τη ρίξει τώρα κάτω ένας ιός θα ήταν μεγάλη τραγωδία! Μιλήσαμε την περασμένη εβδομάδα, όπου κρυβόταν από τον ιό στο σπίτι της και κάποιος απ’ αυτούς που τη φρόντιζαν θα της τον μετέδωσε»

“Ain’t No Sunshine” για τον Bill Withers. Έφυγε στα 81 του χρόνια

Διαβάζω ότι πέθανε ο Αμερικανός Bill Withers.Ένα σφίξιμο στην καρδιά μου. Βλέπετε το “Ain’t No Sunshine” είναι ένα τραγούδι που έχω συνδέσει με διάφορες στιγμές στη ζωή μου και αγαπάω πολύ.

Ξεκάθαρα ένας σπουδαίος ερμηνευτής, με τραγούδια όπως το “Ain’t No Sunshine”, το “Lovely Day” και το “Lead On Me”, όπου έφυγε από τη ζωή, σε ηλικία 81 ετών.

Δυστυχώς, η καριέρα του ως μουσικός διήρκησε από το 1970 μέχρι το 1985. Αρκετά χρόνια όμως για να του δώσουν, όχι ένα, όχι δύο… αλλά 3 Βραβεία Grammy. Ain’t no Sunshine, when you’re gone, Bill Withers.

Ο δημιουργός του «Lean On Me,» του «Ain’t No Sunshine» και του «Lovely Day,» πέθανε μετά από καρδιολογικές επιπλοκές.

We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other. As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.

Έφυγε από τη ζωή η Helin Bölek, μέλος του Grup Yorum, μετά από 288 μέρες απεργίας πείνας

Η Helin Bölek, έφυγε σήμερα από τη ζωή, μετά την απεργία πείνας που έκανε για 288 ημέρες.
Η αγωνίστρια έδωσε την δική της μάχη, κατά των αλλεπάλληλων εισβολών της αστυνομίας για το Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο Idil στο Okmeydanı της Κωνσταντινούπολη.

Κατά τη διάρκεια των εισβολών τα όργανα των μελών του Grup Yorum είτε καταστράφηκαν, είτε εξαφανίστηκαν και τα βιβλία μουσικής τους επίσης καταστράφηκαν. Από τις εισβολές υπήρξαν 30 συλλήψεις, ενώ 7 μέλη του συγκροτήματος παραμένουν ακόμη κρατούμενα.

Ζητούσε την απελευθέρωση των κρατούμενων μελών του Grup Yorum, την άρση των εγγυήσεων αλλά και της διακοπής των συναυλιών τους και των επιθέσεων στο Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο Idil.

Το Grup Yorum ανακοίνωσε τον χαμό της, στο Twitter:

“Σε απεργία πείνας μέχρι θανάτου για 288 μέρες, το μέλος του Grup Yorum Helin Bölek έπεσε μάρτυρας… Καλούμε τους πάντες στο σπίτι της αντίστασης για να αποτίσουμε τιμή στη μάρτυρά μας”,

“Δε μπορεί να κοιμηθεί το βράδυ επειδή οι απολήξεις των νεύρων της έχουν πληγεί. Δεν υπάρχει ύπνος για αυτή επειδή υποφέρει από φριχτούς πόνους. Θέλω η κόρη μου να τραγουδήσει ξανά λαϊκά τραγούδια, δε θέλω να πεθάνει το παιδί μου. Άρσης της απαγόρευσης συναυλιών του Grup Yorum καθώς όλες οι συναυλίες των τελευταίων τριών χρόνων έχουν απαγορευτεί.
Παύση των διώξεων και των δικογραφιών εναντίον μελών του Grup Yorum.
Απελευθέρωση όλων των κρατούμενων μελών του συγκροτήματος.

Με νέα δουλειά έρχονται οι Kadebostany και έχει τον τίτλο “Drama – Act 1“.
Πριν από λίγα λεπτά έκανε την εμφάνιση τους το νέο οπτικοακουστικό υλικό τους που στην ουσία είναι ένα video και περιλαμβάνει τέσσερα κομμάτια.
Το κάθε κομμάτι είναι διαφορετικό από αυτά που έχουμε συνηθίσει, αλλά έχουν μια συνοχή στην μορφή του video.

Αύριο είναι η επίσημη κυκλοφορία του νέου Ep & έχει τον τίτλο “DRAMA – Act 1”

Συνεργασίες όπως: KAZKA, Fang the Great, Irina Rimes και Célia, ακούγονται στην ολοκαίνουργια δουλειά που έχει σκηνοθετήσει ο Hasan Kuyucu.

As Frank Zappa said, “Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible”, so I decided to change the standard way to present my music, and created a movie showcasing the 4 songs from “DRAMA – Act 1”. Features acting from the four vocalists; Irina Rimes, KAZKA, Fang the Great and Célia.

I teamed up with one of the most visionary filmmaker, Hasan Kuyucu, and a dedicated team which helped me to achieve my vision.

Atmospheric Visual Prog LAKEMAN Share Video “25,000 + Hectares”

Visual instrumental prog band LAKEMAN is sharing with fans their music video ‘25,000 + Hectares’ in support of their EP “Progenitor” released this past November.

The track is the shortest LM song ever recorded clocking in at a little over 7 minutes. The song is a sonic meditation inspired by the forest wildfires that sweep through the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada on an annual basis.

The band adds about the track:

“The Ponderosa pine in the area relies on fire to open its cone husks to spread its seeds. Destruction breeds creation. The song’s birth was quick yet meaningful. It had a feeling of something writing itself or being channeled by an unknown source. The song balances two simple chords breathing back and forth through different forms of intensities. Josh Pym screams falsetto’s through the pickups in his guitar while Josh Bissonette weaves a harsh bellowing electronic ambiance over top of the pulsing rhythm section.”

“Progenitor” is the second audio-visual release from LAKEMAN. Most of the EP was recorded live off the floor by Kaylub Burke at the Center for Arts and Technology with mixing and mastering by Andy Ashley. Visual elements for the EP were filmed and edited by Jonathan Robinson, and lighting was operated by Joshua Goodwin.

Robert McLaren explains further:

“We all seem drawn to lo-fi expression for this project. I personally love to capture moments rather than reproduce them. 90% of “Progenitor” is live off the floor, recorded as a band playing together in a room. I would not suggest this for most bands, it is a waiting game to find the take that everyone played their best and usually, time is not a luxury when you are in a studio. However, you have to learn to love your blemishes and flaws as a band when you record this way. It is a form of radical self-acceptance. I like to also add that we have 20 more minutes of recorded music in production to release after “Progenitor”.

LAKEMAN has a devoted cult-like following throughout the Okanagan Valley and British Columbia. The band’s long-form instrumental and genre-bending approach beckons audiences of various musical forms. They revel in the band’s ability to exchange instruments everything from drums to guitars, bass, keyboards, synthesizers and lately even the fiddle and banjo. All this happens on stage while the music continues seamlessly through ambient soundscapes.

The overall theme of the band is a sonic meditation of the veiled and macabre history of the Okanagan valley. The group finds their sound in a deeply collaborative approach, very little composition is done apart, and there is no “songwriter”. The band starts the compositions by first improvising together, the feel of each improvisation can be vastly different based on who is playing which instrument. As mentioned earlier the band does not have assigned instrument roles as most other bands traditionally do. You can find anyone of the members doing anything from turning knobs on a synthesizer to singing into a violin before they started bowing it. After finding the improvisation the band likes, they then begin the long process of composing around this initial improvisation. Once a LAKEMAN piece of music starts to take form the band will start considering a local myth or legend to devote the theme to, this deepens the band’s thematic composition. This is when the piece will usually take its final or close to its final form.

GORLVSH’s Debut Album “New City Vibe”

Bringing their bizarre, mathy, metallic hardcore music to ears everywhere, Montreal, QC power trio GORLVSH (pronounced Gore-Lush) announce they will be releasing their debut album on June 5, 2020 via No List Records and Ancient Temple Recordings for cassette version.

With their heavy, sludgy and energetic sound, suited for anyone looking for something completely different, the band explains:

“We constantly wrote music with the live show in mind. We wanted that to a good blend of all the things we dig that bands do, scrapping the weakest stuff along the way, and constantly iterating upon the songs we dig. Eventually, when we decided to record the full length, we just worked backward from which tracks were most exciting to make something we could be proud of. We’ve upped our production game a lot, but focused primarily on what makes our sound unique, finding riffs that work for our blend of multiple bass amps, octave pedals, and a ton of distortion and fx. We really aim to sound as good and professional as possible, despite our DIY ethos and $0 recording budget.”

Entitled “New City Vibe”, the album is a new mantra, as an injunction. New City Vibe is decadence. The lyrics on the release are all about today’s challenges, individualism, hyper-sexualization, ordinary violence, competition between individuals and deadly ideologies destroying people’s lives. For those who are from the band’s hometown of Montreal, the artwork represents the iconic Farine Roses building.

In the raw and gritty video, you are introduced to the unique and creative hardcore that is influenced by Converge, DFA1979, and Lightning Bolt.

After their nearly prophetic “Black Bile” video and bleak second single “The Machine”, DESERT STORM unveil a brand new song called “Pain, Grief and Suffering”. Instantly gripping the listener’s guts with its dantean grooves and frontal riff onslaught, it also shows a whole new aspect of the band’s songwriting, with its piano bridge taking you to emotional peaks… only to crush all hope during its grand and fearsome solo-driven finale.

Freefall : Dead Is The Oldest You Can Get

Greek Death metallers Freefall return with a new EP titled “Dead Is The Oldest You Can Get”. After finally stabillizg their line up, the band’s new offering focuses on a more oldschool, yet fresh, extreme metal songwriting approach. Containing elements from best of both worlds (European and American DM scenes) the new songs reflect the constant struggle of getting older yet not wiser, in a world on a free fall into obscurity. The 4 track EP includes a Killing Joke cover of “Complications” a somewhat odd choice that fits perfectly to the sarcastic nihilism of the band. The title song and video deals with the agony of a moribound man, on his deathbed and his inner battles just a few minutes before dissolving into total nothingness. Consisting of riffs that pay tribute to the Biritish DM legends the track is a less than 3 mins ferocious punkish attack.

Against the stream of modern extreme metal productions where everything is soullesly perfect, the band tried to keep things as raw as possible. “Dead Is The Oldest You Can Get” was recorded in the blink of an eye during a weekend at Blueberry Production Co. with Kostas Kofinas on the wheel. Mix and master took place on the same studio a couple of months later. The cover is a drawning of the Greek painter/tatoo artist Christos Voulgarakis. Artwork was conseptualized by Nikos Tsiolis Artworks (Dead Congregation, Hail Spirit Noir, Agnes Vein, Kemerov).

ΑΝΤΙΘΕΤΑ ΠΡΟΣΗΜΑ – «Για πόσο ακόμα» από το άλμπουμ «Σύνορα του Άδη».

Τα Αντίθετα Πρόσημα δημιουργήθηκαν για έναν και μοναδικό λόγο: για να παίξουν βαριά μεταλλική μουσική με ελληνικό στίχο. Το σχήμα δεν θέτει όρια στη μουσική του και κινούμενο από το heavy metal μέχρι και το progressive, έχει ως βασική αρχή την μελωδία και τα βαριά riffs όπως τα δίδαξαν οι Iron Maiden, οι Metallica και τα υπόλοιπα ιερά τέρατα του σκληρού ήχου. “Από τα υπόγεια της Τριάντη, το μουσικό πριόνι, συνοδευόμενο από πιάνο, samplers και αναλογικά synthesizers, στα χέρια του Νίκου Γιούσεφ μεταμορφώνεται από όργανο σε φωνή. «Απόκοσμη παιδική φωνή», «φωνή των Σειρήνων» ή «των castrati», όπως την έχουν κατά καιρούς χαρακτηρίσει, σκαρφαλώνει με άνεση στα τονικά ύψη, εκεί που η ανθρώπινη φωνή, για να φτάσει, πρέπει να καταβάλει μεγάλη δύναμη και προσπάθεια.”

Ένα χρόνο μετά από τις δύο sold out συναυλίες που έδωσαν οι τρεις συντελεστές, Νίκος Γιούσεφ, Ειρήνη Τηνιακού & Γιώργος Κατσάνος, στο υποσκήνιο της αίθουσας Τριάντη του Μεγάρου Μουσικής Αθηνών κυκλοφορούν οι ηχογραφήσεις που ακολούθησαν με τίτλο “Adagios From The Underground”.

Με βάση το μουσικό πριόνι και τις δυνατότητές του επιλέχθηκαν γι’ αυτό το άλμπουμ κομμάτια όπως η άρια “Erbarme Dich, Mein Gott” από το ορατόριο «Τα κατά Ματθαίον Πάθη» του J.S.Bach, το “Ave Maria” από το “Ellens Gesang III” του Fr.Schubert, το “Music for a while” του H.Purcell, καθώς επίσης και χορωδιακά έργα όπως το “Lacrimosa” από το “Requiem Mass” του W.A.Mozart και το 1o μέρος (Grave) από το “Stabat Mater Dolorosa” του G.B.Pergolesi. Tο “Vocalise” του S.Rachmaninov επίσης εκτελείται με πολύ ενδιαφέροντα τρόπο από το μουσικό πριόνι, εφόσον μάλιστα είναι τραγούδι χωρίς λόγια. Επιλέχθηκαν επίσης δύο ελληνικά έργα, το “Ίνα τι” του Ιωάννη Πλανήτερου, καθώς και το ορχηστρικό «Η Τράτα» από το λαϊκό μπαλέτο «Η Θάλασσα» του Νίκου Σκαλκώτα. O Γιώργος Κατσάνος σε τρία ambient κομμάτια που είναι μοιρασμένα στο άλμπουμ πραγματικά μας ταξιδεύει στον μυστηριώδη, εκπληκτικό μουσικό κόσμο του “Adagios from the Underground”.

Η ηχογράφηση έγινε τον Ιανουάριο 2020 στο Praxis Studio από τον Χρυσόστομο Καραντωνίου και τον Κώστα Παρίση. Η μίξη έγινε από τον Νίκο Γιούσεφ και το mastering από τον Γιάννη Χριστοδουλάτο. Τα “Underground World”, “In the Deep” και το “Wolfgang’s Dream”, ηχογραφήθηκαν ζωντανά από τον Πέτρο Πετρόπουλο στις 19 Απριλίου 2019 στο υποσκήνιο της αίθουσας Αλεξάνδρα Τριάντη του Μεγάρου Αθηνών. Το artwork και η φωτογραφία του εξωφύλλου είναι του Βασίλη Παπαδάτου. Οι φωτογραφίες στο εσωτερικό είναι του Χάρη Ακριβιάδη.

Το άλμπουμ “Adagios From The Underground” κυκλοφορεί ψηφιακά και σε διπλό βινύλιο από την Underflow Records.

COURSE OF FATE announce the release of their first full length album

This 45 min conceptual piece of music was born back in 2014, when Kenneth Henriksen started making new songs right after the release of the band’s Cognizance EP. After finishing a few songs it became obvious that the band wanted the album to have a red line throughout, inspired by albums like “The Wall“, “Scenes From A Memory” and “Operation Mindcrime“. “I have always been intrigued by writing an album as one piece” adds Kenneth Henriksen. When Eivind and Kenneth started working on the lyrics they wanted it to somehow be inspired by the poem Antigonish by William Hughes Mearns, but also by cult leaders and the people who follow them. In that essence, ”Mindweaver” unfolds a story about a man who experiences visions of the end of the world.

“Mindweaver” will be released through ROAR! Rock of Angels Records, physically and digitally worldwide on May 15, 2020.
