Η Ισλανδή Bjork, είχε ανακοινώσει από τον Οκτώβριο πως θα συνεργαστεί με την Ισπανίδα Rosalia. Αφορά ένα project κατά της καταπολέμησης των ιχθυοκαλλιεργειών στην Ισλανδία.

Η Björk αναγκάστηκε να καθυστερήσει την κυκλοφορία λόγω των συνθηκών δίνοντας νέα ημερομηνία κυκλοφορίας, την σημερινή 21 Νοεμβρίου 2023.
Στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης, η Björk μίλησε ανοιχτά για την προέλευση του κομματιού. Πρόκειται για ένα τραγούδι “25 ετών” που έγραψε και προγραμμάτισε εμπνευσμένη από ένα dancehall beat.

Τι είναι το Oral
Δεν πάει καιρός που μίλησε για αυτό αναλυτικά, όπως και για την ιστορία που μετράει το single αυτό:
“Even though I obviously didn’t write this song for salmons, I like the fact that it’s a happy song”
“I recorded it between [1997’s] ‘Homogenic’ and [2001’s] ‘Vespertine’” . “It was just so different; it was so poppy. It didn’t fit either album somehow. But I never forgot about it. It was always kind of rolling around in my brain.
At the time, the song was in analog, physical tape form, meaning it was very difficult to locate as the Icelandic singer had forgotten its name. For years, it went undetected, until March 2023.
“There was this aristocrat, like in the financial district, who had a sex scandal or something, and there was a court case about him and his two sons,” . “I was touring in Australia at the time, and I was watching CNN. In the ribbon of headlines at the bottom of the screen,“Oral or not oral?” Like, “Was it oral or not oral?”
“I was like, “Wow, that’s the name of the song: ‘Oral.’” And I texted my manager and said, “Could you look in the analog multitracks and find the song called ‘Oral,’” and he found it. Three days later, he emailed it to me.
“What’s weird is that the song was exactly how I remembered it. I liked the song, but it was sort of its own little thing that doesn’t fit on any albums or anything. And then this whole open sea fish farming thing came up, and I was like, “Oh, I will just give it to activism.”
Αποκάλυψε ότι “υπάρχει ένας κομψός συντονισμός μεταξύ των φωνών και των δύο καλλιτεχνών. Επίσης έχουν την ίδια ηλικία στην ηχογράφηση”. Η Björk συνέχισε ευχαριστώντας τη Sega Bodega για την παραγωγή του τραγουδιού μαζί με την ίδια και τη Rosalía.
Η τραγουδίστρια μίλησε για τις προσπάθειές της να σταματήσει τις ιχθυοκαλλιέργειες στη χώρα της, λέγοντας ότι μια ομάδα εθελοντών από “τις μεγαλύτερες περιβαλλοντικές ομάδες στην Ισλανδία” συνεργάστηκε με δικηγόρους για να αγωνιστούν για τον σκοπό αυτό.
“Industrial salmon farming in open net pens is horrid for the environment. The farmed salmon goes through immense suffering, and it causes severe harm for our planet. This is an extraordinarily cruel way to make food. The fight against the open net pen industry is a part of the fight for the future of the planet.
She continued: “One of the most severe environmental challenge[s] for the north this century is the acidity of the ocean. In the space of 5 years, Norwegian open sea fish farming of companies MOWI and SalMar have already damaged big areas in our fjords, both marine life, animals and plants which will attribute to that.

Björk finally urged people to help reverse the damage done: “Our legal cases on bio-diversity, cruelty to animals and more could become exemplary cases around the world.”
