On March 13th 2026, Greek thrash metal band Suicidal Angels will perform at Savino in Larnaca. Ahead of the concert, we listened to one of the most iconic albums in their career back from 2009 – “Sanctify the Darkness” , refreshing our memory with this milestone of an album.
They say that for the metal scene, violence and blood are just ways for musicians to express themselves and an opportunity to describe their emotions through a “dark” prism. But who would refuse to tickle their nerves with the legendary Suicidal Angels on Friday 13th and mark this day on the calendar in blood red? Moreover, such beasts of the Cypriot scene as Vomitile and Daggr play in support. And since Cyprus has been in the news for the last weeks due to attacks on British bases, everyone has built up quite a bit of tension. We advocate only effective and non-toxic methods of relaxation: headbanging, mosh pit, wall of death and crowd surfing.

Having started as a school project of covers of famous thrash metal bands back in 2001, Suicidal Angels have released eight studio albums to date. And although only vocalist/guitarist and songwriter Nick Melissourgos remains from the original lineup, the band continues to develop and delight fans with its creativity.
Signing their first contract with Nuclear Blast, performing at various festivals, opening for Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – these are just a few of the significant events that defined the Suicidal Angels as a band.

Undoubtedly, another milestone is the second album in their discography “Sanctify the Darkness”.
You can go crazy with complicated progressive guitar parts as much as you want, but always come back to the simple and clear. This is exactly how “Sanctify the Darkness” presents itself: honest, tough, heavy, speed and all in the best traditions of old-school thrash. This is not surprising, since Nick Melissourgos listened to the early works of Slayer, Sepultura, Morbid Angel, Sodom and many others, and it was the legacy of these groups that formed the basis of the Suicidal Angels’ work.
It is their first album after signing a contract with Nuclear Blast. It was in the same year (2009) that they beat out 1,200 other bands and won first place in the Rock the Nation Award. It’s this kind of thrash metal, so familiar yet so forgotten, that fans go crazy for. It’s this very same old-school sound that has become the Suicidal Angels’ signature style.
This is the kind of music that makes you want to start a mosh pit immediately. “Sanctify the Darkness” is the classic thrash blend of menace and adrenaline without modern sterility – only speed and aggression.
Suicidal Angels
are not trying to reinvent the genre but instead they remind us why we are stuck to it and demand more!
Despite the success and good reviews of the album, Suicidal Angels never tried to copy anyone, much less stamp out the same thing over and over again.
Therefore, looking at the entire discography of the band as a whole, one comes to the realization of the uniqueness of “Sanctify the Darkness” – this is music written at a certain moment in the existence of the band, reflecting their signature style in an interpretation that is not repeated in subsequent albums.

So, on Friday 13th at Savino Club in Larnaca fans who aren’t particularly superstitious, but are desperately craving excellent thrash metal, will be able to headbang to the fullest extent possible to the merciless drums and rapid tremolo guitars. First, Vomitile and Daggr will set the tone for the evening, and then, after a long absence, we’ll be able to see the Suicidal Angels themselves on stage.
