From The Land, the dark country/gothic collective comprised of members from the acclaimed dark folk band Nytt Land, today announced the release of their powerful new single and accompanying video, “Run On“.
The track is the group’s compelling take on the traditional American folk song known by many names, including “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” and “Sermon”. This classic, stark warning about divine judgment has been recorded by icons across multiple genres, from Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley to Marilyn Manson.

breathes new, menacing life into the familiar material. Known for blending the raw emotional grit of gothic country with sparse, evocative soundscapes, the group’s version of “Run On” transforms the original spiritual threat into a chilling, modern cinematic experience.
According to the band, “Run On” (or “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”) is a timeless piece of American folklore, carrying a potent message that evildoers cannot escape the consequences of their actions. Artists such as Odetta, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and Tom Jones have previously interpreted the song. Following this tradition, From The Land strips the song down to its eerie core, utilising deep vocals, haunting percussion, and atmospheric instrumentation to deliver a definitive new dark-country rendition.”
The release of “Run On” precedes the upcoming announcement of From The Land’s highly anticipated debut album, “Stolen Season pt. I” set for release on 21 November via 7 Mater, with distribution by The Circle Music.

From The Land is the brainchild of Anatoly Pakhalenko, frontman of the dark folk band Nytt Land. Conceived in 2025, the project serves as an alter ego for Pakhalenko’s creative exploration and experimentation within dark country and blues genres. The band’s aesthetic is described as a “black and white world tired of all this s**t that’s going on around and gradually sinking into an endless sleep.”
“Stolen Season pt. I” was composed by Anatoly Pakhalenko and Aleksandr Rosliakov. The album was recorded at Nytt Land Studio between January and May 2025, with Anatoly Pakhalenko serving as recording and mixing engineer, and producer.
From The Land draws inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, and David Lynch.
