Ο καιρός πλησιάζει για το solo album της Simone Simons, των Epica! Το «Vermillion» αναμένεται στις 23 Αυγούστου μέσω της Nuclear Blast Records σε μια συνεργασία με τον Arjen Lucassen (AYREON).
Μέσα από το album ακούμε ακόμα ένα single, με τίτλο «R.E.D.» όπου και κυκλοφόρησε!
“‘R.E.D.’ deals with the rise of artificial intelligence, imagining a future where the creation begins to outpace the creator. It reflects on the A.I.’s growing self-awareness and its unfulfilled desire to experience emotions, something that its synthetic nature makes impossible to ever realize.
The song also looks at the double-edged nature of technological advancements and the profound existential questions that are becoming ever more important to address.”

Το El Cuartel Del Metal, φιλοξένησε συνέντευξη της Simone Simons όπου αναφέρει το χρόνο υλοποίησης του album.
“Well, actively for, I guess, one and a half years, or one year even, with Arjen. We started, yeah, last year, I think springtime or so. But I talked to him about working together, I asked him if he wanted to work with me on my solo album already years ago, if he would be interested. And he was, but we were both just too busy. And last year, we also did the AYREON shows together; I was part of that. But already before those took place, we met up because he already started writing songs, and he always kind of wrote two, three songs and then I would come over to him to record vocals. And then a couple of months later he would have more songs.
So it was not that all songs were there all at once. But we did it in a couple of sessions. And, yeah, EPICA was not touring a lot.
And writing a new record for EPICA was kind of a little bit like at the end of the last vocal recordings for ‘Vermillion’. EPICA was also in the studio, or writing camps, writing albums. So, for me, I guess this was the freest I could get my calendar, but I still had things going on. And in the past we were just touring too much. So the wish was always there, but not the time, also for Arjen because he’s very busy as well.”
But now we were both motivated and had the time. The time was right now.

«Λοιπόν, το «Aeterna» ήταν ιδέα του Arjen να κυκλοφορήσει ως πρώτο single κομμάτι, επειδή είναι λίγο σαν ένα τέλειο μείγμα των AYREON και των EPICA- υπάρχουν αρκετές ομοιότητες της μουσικής μας καριέρας και των δύο, υποθέτω. Έτσι θα ήταν ένα είδος ήπιας εισαγωγής στους οπαδούς και των δύο μας, για να ζεσταθούν με το project. Αλλά σίγουρα δεν είναι μια ένδειξη για το πώς ακούγεται ολόκληρο το άλμπουμ- εξακολουθεί να είναι πολύ, πολύ διαφορετικό. Και το «In Love We Rust» είναι ένα από τα αγαπημένα κομμάτια του Arjen και δικά μου από το άλμπουμ, και είναι μια όμορφη μπαλάντα.
Σε ποιον δεν αρέσουν οι μπαλάντες; Και αυτό το μήνα, θα υπάρξει ένα τρίτο single, το οποίο θα είναι ένα πολύ βαρύ τραγούδι. Οπότε είμαι περίεργος να δω τι θα πει ο κόσμος γι’ αυτό. Αλλά όλα τα τραγούδια είναι λαμπρά και μου αρέσουν όλα. Είναι όλα σαν μωρά κατά κάποιο τρόπο.

Αλλά για το ‘Aeterna’, λυπήθηκα λίγο τον Patric [Ullaeus] που έκανε το βίντεο γιατί είναι μεγάλο τραγούδι για να κάνεις βίντεο. Στις μέρες μας τα singles είναι πάντα τριών, το πολύ τεσσάρων λεπτών και οι EPICA πάντα το ξεπερνούν αυτό, αλλά, ναι, έξι λεπτά με υπερκαινοφανείς, πλανήτες και πολλά φορέματα.»
Το «’Aeterna‘ είναι το μεγάλο, επικό άνοιγμα του άλμπουμ και συνοδεύεται και από αυτό το καταπληκτικό βίντεο, σκηνοθετημένο από τον Patric Ullaeus.
“‘Aeterna’ takes the point of view of a star about to go supernova to explore how everything in the universe is interconnected, like a cosmic web made from stardust. It deals our deep emotions, consciousness and other mysteries of life that science still can’t fully explain. Essentially it’s a reflection on our place in the vast universe and the connections that bind us together, as we’re all, to quote Carl Sagan, ‘made of starstuff.'”

«Το βίντεο γυρίστηκε σε μία μόνο λήψη για να είναι όσο το δυνατόν πιο καθαρό και ωμό. Επιλέξαμε να το κρατήσουμε ασπρόμαυρο, ώστε να μην αποσπάται η προσοχή από το τραγούδι ή την ερμηνεία. Είναι αρκετά διαφορετικό από το πρώτο μας single «Aeterna», γεγονός που δείχνει πόσο διαφορετικό είναι αυτό το άλμπουμ. Πρόκειται για ένα από τα αγαπημένα μας τραγούδια. Ελπίζουμε να το αγαπήσετε όσο και εμείς».

Μπορεί να πλησιάζουν 20 χρόνια από τότε που γνωρίσαμε την Simone Simons, να την ακούσαμε και να την καμαρώσαμε στη σκηνή του metal, αυτό δε σημαίνει πως βιάστηκε να κυκλοφορήσει προσωπική δουλειά.
Vermillion
Μέσα σε όλα όσα κάνει τα τελευταία χρόνια, βρήκε επιτέλους το χρόνο να κυκλοφορήσει το πρώτο της σόλο άλμπουμ – μια στιγμή που προετοιμαζόταν για 15 χρόνια. Το «Vermillion» είναι μια βιογραφία της, αφού εξιστορεί το ιστορικό παρελθόν της. Μιλά για την άνοδό της στη φήμη, και αναδεικνύει τις πολλές διαφορετικές επιρροές της που κυμαίνονται από prog rock μέχρι κινηματογραφικές παρτιτούρες, αλλά και από metal μέχρι ηλεκτρονικά στοιχεία.
