We are excited to share with you the news about the release of the new album by the Canadian heavy metal band Iron Kingdom.

Their sixth studio album “Shadows and Dust” will be released on June 6, 2026, but we managed to listen to it already and we can confidently say that it is a clear statement of what traditional heavy metal is all about!

Iron Kingdom has been playing since 2011, actively developing and never changing their style. In this album, they don’t try to reinvent the genre but to produce the classic sound that fans have been loving for decades.

From the first track “Defenders”, which is also the first single from the “Shadows and Dust” Iron Kingdom delivers strong guitar riffs that are sharp, energetic, catchy and powerful. They definitely stay in your head after the song ends.

It’s symbolic that the album’s release date, June 6th, also marks the 15th anniversary of the band’s founding. This is a significant milestone and a testament to the resilience of all the band members, the devotion of their fans, and the vibrant life of heavy metal as a genre.

The band itself says the new album differs from previous ones for several reasons.

First, it was recorded entirely in the band members’ personal studio. Second, lyrically, “Shadows and Dust” explores themes that are common in the genre but Iron Kingdom decided to delve deeper into lyrical writing. On the new album you might encounter themes such as: death, impermanence, hardship, and resilience. The lyrics are simple and direct, which make them easy to understand. They support the music without becoming too complicated.

But the experimentation doesn’t stop there. Third, in addition to their signature heavy metal sound, the band introduced new progressive elements and an even more captivating texture. Most songs have clear verses, big choruses, and melodic guitar solos in the middle or near the end which focus on emotion and melody. This approach fits perfectly with the traditional heavy metal identity.

We would like to mention one more key element – and that is, of course, the vocals! Guitarist/vocalist Chris Osterman, uses a high-pitched, clean voice that matches the classic heavy metal style. There are moments of strong, almost heroic delivery, especially in the choruses and are designed to be sung along with. This makes the album feel very engaging.

Another standout of the “Shadows and Dust” album is its consistency. Every track feels like a part of a whole. The band knows what they want to sound like and they stay true to it.

Iron Kingdom

announced a major Canadian tour from June to August 2026. For the first time, they will tour the entire country promoting their new album and  igniting the hearts of metal fans with renewed vigor.

In the end, “Shadows and Dust” is a tribute to traditional heavy metal. It captures the spirit of the genre with strong riffs, melodic solos, and powerful vocals. If you are looking for something new or modern, you may find it too predictable. The songs follow similar patterns, and sometimes they blend together. Still, the strong melodies and solid performances help making the album sound enjoyable.

If you enjoy classic heavy metal and want more of that timeless sound then “Shadows and Dust” will feel very familiar in a good way. It may not be groundbreaking, but it is honest, energetic, and enjoyable from start to finish.
